Are You Trapped By Ego

“If Columbus would have turned back, no one would have blamed him. No one would have remembered him either.”-Anonymous

Tell me if you find this thought interesting. The above quote is very true. There is no denying it. Imagine if Columbus would have never aspired to look for a new world.

.

I’m just not sure if Columbus was doing it because he was in the noble pursuit of adventure or because he was looking for money & fame. Maybe a historian could tell me? Regardless I’m not so sure he did it only for the purpose of hoping people would remember his name hundreds of years later, but it’s quite possible.

.

However the quote also completely comes from ego too. In my book ego stands for Edging Greatness Out. Or Edging God Out. There is ego within all of us. It’s what drives you for individuality. Your ego has you believe that you are not connected to anyone or anything and that you are separate.

.

I’m writing this in the context of you creating a new way of wealth through a solid emotional foundation so you don’t get caught up in the More Syndrome. Don’t chase the recognition, or the money. Counter intuitive?

.

Why You Shouldn’t Chase Money

.

As I’m writing this post Steve Pavlina just twittered a quote that fits very well in the stream of consciousness that I was coming from when writing this and I don’t think it was by accident:

“Self employment can be just as bad as having a job if you chase money. Focus on creating a fabulous life, and design your career as part of it.“-Steve Pavlina

.

So was Columbus chasing the money, the glory or the spirit of adventure? If it was the spirit of adventure was he focusing on creating a fabulous life and his acknowledgment merely was a result of his life well lived?

.

Unless you were there you may never know.

Are you chasing money?

.

Are you chasing recognition?

.

Are you attempting to prove yourself to others through obtaining wealth?

.

Redirect Your Financial Focus

.

If so you’re approaching wealth in such a way that you will never truly feel centered and fulfilled once you do get those things. You will always be trapped by more.

.

Design a life that centers around your passions and stuff such as money, homes, cars & recognition will become results of a life well lived.

.

Perhaps you desire to be self employed but you’re scared of failure? What’s worse? The pain of failure or the regret of never tried?

.

Failure weighs ounces, regret weighs tons.

.

Be conscious of your finances, respect them & nurture them. But don’t make obtaining the cash your focus.

.
