So what the hell am I talking about? Good question. Well The key is have you ever heard the saying, “Dangling the Carrot in front of Someone?”

.

I bet you’re A lot like me and you have.

.

Can you imagine when you started out “chasing the carrot” based on your upbringing by your parents (Clean your room and you can go out and play), then by teachers (You gotta get that A so you get a pat on the back), then in college by professors (Again chasing the grade to get that all important diploma) Then in the job world (Do a good job and you’ll get that 3% raise or promotion we promised you).

.

These are just a few of the ways you can become hard wired and used to having a carrot dangled in front of you in order to stretch yourself beyond your on level of belief.

.

However if you think about it…who ends up having more leverage, the dangler or the danglee? And by that I mean in this context. If you’re working from home in a network marketing business and you don’t have a lot of experience your sponsor may hold your first paycheck in front of you as a “motivation” to do the activities that lead to you getting paid.

.

You’re still playing the old game of leader/follower. And you’re the follower. (Not to mention your sponsors leverage)

.

Or again in the job world whether commission or salary your boss/manager holds the looming “bonus” in front of you, or worse yet the, “get it done or be fired” carrot.

.

There’s nothing wrong with that in the fact that you have to start somewhere. A good sponsor will empower you though to the point of working with you to find the motivation with in so that you find your own carrot. Then you can go forth and duplicate such activity so that you develop more leaders.

.

Same goes with a good corporate structured company where there is quality leadership development.

.

The Carrot Of Awareness

.

Dangling the carrot could be held in a negative context but in this case I’d prefer not to. I’d prefer to be the dangler and develop the carrot with in others and work with that person to find their own motivation. This creates leverage and a good feeling that I’ve helped someone develop and stretch beyond what they thought was personally possible.

.

Like I’ve quoted many times from John C. Maxwell-”People are a lot like rubber bands, they are the most useful when they are stretched.

.

It’s a long term strategy that you can apply to any endeavor you’re engaged in where you’re working with people. It just so happens that it works really well in network marketing. (Hence from my own experience)

.

A few steps you can take to find your “inner carrot” even if you’re on a macro level in a network marketing business or even as an employee in an organization are:

.

  • Determine your why and the importance of accomplishing it as an individual and as a company
  • Ask yourself how would the outcome feel?
  • Ask yourself what would that outcome look like?
  • How would you know when you’ve accomplished your outcome?
  • Ask yourself how many people it would take to empower in your organization to accomplish said goal

.

Once you have got concrete in your mind this vision you will be amazed at the quality of people you attract into your organization to accomplish your vision.

.

Work to find out their drives and teach them to follow their inner carrot so they reach their goals. By accomplishing this you get your vision accomplished with the help of your team exponentially. You help them get what they want and you get what you want.

.

Now Zig Zigler would be proud wouldn’t he?

.

Bottom lines is as you gain awareness even at the lower levels of your organization it’s never too late to take responsibility and find your inner carrot in order to gain the edge above and beyond those who don’t.
